If you are an Ilonggo based in Iloilo City, you know exactly where to go during Holy Week. Well, this may not be 100% true nowadays because Ilonggos has widen its travel list. However, Balaan Bukid still tops the list.
Balaan Bukid is the summit with white cross visible at Iloilo City. Like I mentioned, it tops most Ilonggos must-to-go spot to meditate for the Holy Week. It is the nearest and the most accessible location for penitence for those living in the city. It only takes 20-30 minutes from Iloilo City Wharf to Jordan Wharf. Boat fare is just P13.00. The public transport operates from 6am to 7pm. The schedule and the fare makes the island paradise accessible even for the working class who works on either Island.
One of the reason I love about Balaan Bukid is that, it is so near but when you reach the summit, peace is there to embrace you. There is a small chapel on top pf Balaan Bukid. It is right next to the huge white cross visible to Iloilo City. Iloilo city is also visible from Balaan Bukid. It gives a great view of the growing Iloilo City.
Take time to visit Balaan Bukid, however, I do not suggest it during Holy Week because there is a HUGE influx of people climbing the hill.
